Murder inquiry after body found




From the BBC London website: Police investigating a shooting in east London believe the incident is linked to the discovery of the body of a woman in a nearby house.

The Asian woman was found covered with a blanket in a house in Whyteville Road, Forest Gate.

Officers had been called at 1800 BST on Monday after an Asian man in his 30s was shot outside an address in nearby Gower Road.

He was taken by relatives to an east London hospital where he is said to be in a serious condition.

Scotland Yard says the gunman, who was seen escaping in a beige or gold Peugeot 306 car, is described as being Asian, about 30 years old, and 5 ft 6 in tall.

Officers investigating the shooting went to the house in Whyteville Road where they discovered the woman's body on the ground flloor.

A spokesman said: "At this stage, it is not known how long the woman, who was also Asian, had been dead. Inquiries are under way to establish her identity."

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Detectives are appealing for help in tracing the gunman, who is believed to have links with the Bradford area.

Bogus Officials Strike Again



Another elderly Forest Gate resident has fallen victim to criminals posing as officials.

The woman, aged 78, was at home in Capel Road when a man called at her door claiming to be from the water board. He showed her an ID card and asked to come in to check her water as he claimed it may have been contaminated as the result of a nearby burst pipe.

He was joined by a second man during the "inspection." After the men left the woman realised £30 was missing.

Police are looking for two white men, one is 5' 9" with ginger hair and was wearing beige clothing and the other is 6' with brown hair and was wearing dark blue clothing. Anyone with information should contact Forest Gate police station.

Primary School Launches New Web Site



Elmhurst primary school in Upton Park Road celebrated the launch of their new web site last week.

Children from the school dressed up in carnival outfits and sang a song to mark the event. The site, www.elmhurstschool.co.uk, includes information about holidays, school news, uniform details, after-school clubs, curriculum developments, games and a page devoted to the children's work.

A cake, iced with the web site address, was cut to celebrate the occassion.

Police Swoop in Drugs Raid



A Police raid on three addresses in Forest Gate has led to four people being charged with drugs offences, including possession of crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply and cultivation of cannabis.

Initially Police acted on intelligence and 40 officers stormed into two neighbouring properties, but further information then led them to the third house. In total eleven people were arrested.

The raids, conducted in the late afternoon of Friday 4 July, were part of a wider operation to tackle the recent increase of drug-related crimes in the area. Detective Chief Inspector Gerry Campbell, who is based at Forest gate Police Station is leading the operation. Prior to last Friday 26 people have been arrested for supplying drugs in the area.


Peace Protestor Fined



Protesting against the war in Iraq has cost a Forest Gate man £150 after he was fined for his part in a demonstration outside an Army base in Middlesex last January.

Christopher Gwyntopher, of Rothsay Road, was found guilty at Hemel Hempted Court. He was also at the time of the offence under a conditional discharge for earlier cutting through the perimeter wire of the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston.
